"Your life is not the number of breaths you take, but the number of moments that take your breath away."  -Hitch

Well...I just experienced one of those breath-taking moments a couple of days ago. Three/four bombs went off in Yangon...normally such a peaceful and angelic city to live in. Apparently more than 50 people have died and another 150 are reported to be injured. This isn't Iraq for heavens sake! You wouldn't expect that sort of thing here! But...purely from a selfish point...the breath-taking moment occurred when I was shaken awake from an afternoon nap by my dad on Saturday with the news....

"There's been a huge bomb blast in Dagon Center, and mom had left to go to City Mart a while ago. Her cell is 'Out of Service Area'!"

I was so freaked...I almost had a panic attack. Just then my mom called to say that she was fine and had heard about the blast, but had left DC a couple of minutes before the bomb exploded. I was so relieved I almost choked...scary stuff!

I hope that's the last of the bomb attacks...although there are constant rumors of bombs that are yet to be detonated. Let's all hope this madness ends soon.

On a more cheerful note, the Class of 2004 has started trickling back to Burma. Alex got here yesterday, Tom gets here next week and Dawn and Zin come on the 25th.

As captain I got to keep the trophy...but only for 1 day. I was wondering what to do with it...Max gave me a great idea...but I don't have any kids.

CONGRATS TO THE GIRLS...THEY CAME 2ND

Tuesday, April 26, 2005

Hmmm...let's see. What important thing(s) happened today? Who am I kidding...the best thing that happened to me was that I hit my very first HOMERUN in softball. And it wasnt one of those rolling ones that go through the whole team's legs...it was a real hit over right field's head. And he was playing pretty deep. It wasnt a proper homerun coz we were playing at the ginormous Kyaikasang field...but it's what we're gonna need at SEASAC. Now I'm probably exaggerating...but the ball might just have skimmed over the low right field homerun fence at the American Club. Probably not...but it made my day! Especially since Jong Myung had been dissing my batting just before I stepped up to the plate. That made it sooo much sweeter.

The next most important event of today was that Thiha proved what an idiot he really is by taking a nosedive into the MPR floor. His whole chin wa cut open, and he had a wound so deep that you could almost see his bone. I almost threw up when I saw it first...it was incredible deep. He had 4 stitches and came right back for practice. Pretty brave...I would probably have been screaming my head off in pain.

SEASAC's in 2 days...all you guys pray that we win. My current life's ambition is to beat NIST in the finals 50-0 and then sit in front of the score board and take about 100 photos. Such a shame that Wecker's not playing...I would have sat him next to me for the photo.

Prom's coming up...get your money for the tickets and get your date early...might be taken otherwise. Looks like I'm gonna be going alone...sigh...no one wants to go with me. *sniff*. Seriously though...it should be a really fun night (may 25th)

One last message...for Yasu this time. Mowgli...if you don't come back, we're all gonna kick your ass.

One thing I've never understood is why free e-mail websites keep advertising their sites as having an unlimited inbox space. who cares?? No one can possibly have more than a certain number of mails in their account...it's impossible to fill up 250MB with e-mails (that was the size of my inbox before mail2world.com decided to give its users "Unlimited Inbox"). It's totally ridiculous!

I got really pissed off today at Zayar, Sin, and Young Kul. We finally got our school ID cards out to everyone...and they look amazing! Much much better than last years ones. Honestly...I'm not just saying it. And then Zayar and Sin and Young Kul start whining about how ugly they are, and how their picture doesnt look good etc etc. I was about to say...I don't see that Mingalar Garden Hotel or any of you have made us cards...so why are you complaining. But I thought better off it...why make enemies weeks before I'll probably never see these people again.

Anywayz...we got slaughtered in softball today, and Mr. K got so pissed. His bald shiny head turned red with anger and he started bitching about 4 of the players on our team...quite un-coachlike behavior. Talk about "leading by example"!

Well that's all I have to rant about...except that I did finally choose Middlebury as my college...hope it's a good coice.
